Have you ever looked back on a moment in your life and thought, If only I had been bold enough to take that step? Boldness is essential for anyone who wants to achieve something meaningful and impactful. The people who make a lasting impact, whether in business, faith, or personal growth, all have one thing in common: they act boldly.
The Bible text will be taken from Prov 28:1 – “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion,”
What Does It Mean to Be Bold?
Boldness is the courage to act or speak fearlessly, despite real or imagined dangers. It means stepping up when others hesitate. It’s not about being aggressive or reckless, but about having the confidence to do what you believe is right, no matter the obstacles.
Think about the great figures of history and faith—Noah, Nehemiah, Joseph, Joshua, David, Daniel. They didn’t wait for perfect conditions. They didn’t let fear dictate their choices. They moved forward with boldness, trusting that what was ahead was greater than what they were leaving behind.
Boldness Means Power
When you embrace boldness, you unlock three powerful qualities:
1. The Ability to Act – You don’t just wish for things; you make them happen.
2. The Determination to Pursue Your Goals – Even when it’s difficult, you keep going.
3. The Strength to Overcome Resistance – Challenges and setbacks don’t stop you; they strengthen you.
Boldness Means Confidence
Confidence that God will do what He has promised. Confidence in the direction you are being led. Confidence that what’s in your heart and hands will succeed. When you are bold, you don’t just wait for opportunities, you create them.
Being bold doesn’t mean there won’t be challenges. In fact, challenges are guaranteed. Opposition will arise, difficulties will come, and moments of doubt will creep in. But your ability to move forward despite those obstacles is proof of your boldness.
Think about this: you don’t know how bold you are until you face opposition. When your goals, career, or dreams are tested, will you stand firm?
Exodus 14:8 says, “And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with boldness.”
Even when Pharaoh pursued them, the Israelites stepped forward boldly. If they could do it, so can you.
Now, how do you develop boldness?
1. Uncover the real you
Proverbs 28:1 reminds us that “the righteous are bold as a lion.”
To be bold, you must have a clear understanding of who you are. Boldness isn’t just about action—it starts with identity. When you know who you are in God, boldness becomes your natural state.
Know who you believe in. Daniel 11:32 says, “…but the people who do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”
Know your strengths and weaknesses. Don’t overestimate your abilities, but don’t downplay them either.
Know who you are in Christ. When God calls you “mighty,” don’t argue with Him. Gideon tried to tell God he was weak, but God called him a mighty man of valor.
You also need to identify your resources. Every bold action requires preparation. Find the right people to collaborate with. Seek out the knowledge and wisdom needed for success. Equip yourself with information that will shape your decisions.
2. Understand Your Fears and Confront Them
Fear is a natural response to the unknown. Even the greatest leaders in history have felt fear.
Joshua had to be reminded multiple times to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6-9).
Gideon doubted himself, saying, “I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15).
Moses told God, “I am slow of speech” (Exodus 4:10).
But they all confronted their fears. Instead of avoiding what scared them, they faced it head-on.
A survey in Psychology Today revealed that 60% of people hold back from pursuing their goals due to fear of failure. Imagine how many dreams remain unfulfilled because of fear.
Ask yourself: What are you afraid of?
Have you failed before? So what? Failure is just a lesson.
Do you lack resources? Money isn’t the first thing you need, it’s vision and the right mindset.
2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Boldness isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you develop. The best way to confront fear? Take action. Each small step forward builds confidence and weakens fear.
3. Understand What’s at Stake
Boldness isn’t just about you. The stakes are bigger than you realize. Moses wasn’t just leading himself, he was leading an entire nation. Gideon’s actions affected all of Israel. Joshua’s boldness determined the fate of his people, Israelites.
Now think about your own life. Maybe you’re the first generation in your family to step into new opportunities. Maybe you’re breaking barriers for future generations. If you don’t act boldly, who will?
A time may come when traditional jobs aren’t available. What if the only opportunity left is the one you create for yourself? Boldness pushes you to take those risks, create those opportunities, and step into the unknown with confidence.
There’s a difference between being reckless and being bold. Reckless people ignore risks. Bold people acknowledge risks and find ways to overcome them.
Let us Pray:
My father and my God, help me to overcome the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus.
Lord Jesus, give me broader perspectives to understand the stakes and help me become bold to pursue my goals, in alignment with your will, in Jesus name.
