True gladness is a state of the heart, and it comes with a feeling of great and pure joy about something or someone. Take note of the word ‘True’. ‘True’ because, it is possible to experience gladness/joy sponsored by false/temporary triggers.
What triggers gladness for some people could be the acquisition of a new house, promotion at workplace, new job, being with someone they love, or public approval. All of these are good, but they did not matter so much to David in the bible. What triggered gladness for David was AN INVITATION TO THE HOUSE OF GOD.
It mattered so much to him that he documented it for us in Psa. 122:1 – “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
Whatever triggers gladness in people reveals how important it is to them. According to Matt 6:21 – “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. The verse simply explains how the focus of our mind influences our act and decisions.
REASONS YOU MUST BE GLAD TO COME TO THE HOUSE OF GOD:
1. The house of God is a House of thanksgiving:
The house of God is a House of praise. A House of worship! You can do your personal praise and worship in your personal space, but it is not the same when it is done in the church where you have different groups of people lifting Holy hands in one accord to the king of kings.
In Matt.18:20 – “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” In the house of God, you are sure of God’s presence! You are also sure to benefit from the anointed ministration of other brethren.
2. A house of teaching:
Mic. 4:2 – “To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
People spend years in the classroom to learn science, to acquire commercial skills, learn trades, etc. These are great and important, but they do not have eternal values. They are only useful here on earth.
However, in the house of God, you will acquire teachings of eternal value! You learn the truth, that will set you free! You have close proximity exposure to the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ because the word of God is light.
Unfortunately, this is the same reason people don’t like to show up in church, so they don’t hear the truth that will reprove them of their wrong doings.
3. The house of God is a house of Joy:
According to Psa. 16:11 – “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” The house of God is like a buffet. Everything is there for you to take. It is a House of Thanksgiving.
This is the reason your trigger of TRUE GLADNESS Must be your presence in the HOUSE of the Lord. David knew this and he wrote in Psa. 27:4 – “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to see the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”
If going to the house of the LORD does not make you GLAD, check your heart.
