If you have ever watched an eagle fly, like really watched it fly, you will be able to easily tell the difference when every other bird flap their wings to fly, and the majestic flight of the eagle across the sky.
Eagles don’t flap like chickens. They SOAR.
As humans, we’re not biologically designed to fly, we are made to soar, and to do that, we need more than desire. We need excellence.
What Does It Mean to Soar?
Soaring is not just about flying, it’s about rising above. It’s about ascending from where you are to where you’re meant to be. It’s moving:
From last to first. From being ordinary to being extraordinary. From a place of pain to a life of purpose and pleasure. From obscurity to significance.
To soar is to answer heaven’s call to rise. And the truth is, you were born to soar.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.”
Eagles don’t fight the wind; they ride it. They wait, watch, and then rise when the moment is right. They fly above the storms. That’s what God wants for us. Not to be tossed by life’s winds, but to ride them higher.
Now, What Is Excellence?
Excellence isn’t perfection. It’s not being better than someone else. It’s being the best version of who God made you to be.
Excellence is pursuing and doing the best you can with the gifts and abilities God has given you, to His glory. It’s not a one-time thing. Excellence isn’t a one-day performance. It’s a way of life. It’s consistency. It’s being better tomorrow than you were yesterday.
What does Soaring on the Wings of Excellence mean:
Just as an eagle has two wings. It can’t soar with one. Same with you.
The two wings you need to soar in life to live out the excellence you were born for are: POWER and WISDOM. And both of these are found in Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:24 tells us, “Christ…is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
You need both. Not one or the other. Both. When you lean too much on power, you’ll be strong but reckless. And when you lean too much on wisdom, you’ll be smart but stagnant.
But when you balance the two, you SOAR.
1. The Wing of Power:
Eagles dominate the skies. Some can fly as high as 37,000 feet. They ride the winds with purpose and they fly above the rest.
In the same way, the Spirit of excellence gives you dominion in your workplace, in your calling, in life. You’re not called to blend in. You’re called to stand out.
Daniel did. In fact, Daniel 6:3 says, “Then this Daniel distinguished himself… because an excellent spirit was in him.”
When you walk in power, when you’re diligent, skilled, and disciplined, it shows. Excellence attracts excellence. When you grow in power, the quality of people and opportunities around you rises too.
2. The Wing of Wisdom:
Eagles don’t just take off at any time. They wait. Then they act. That’s wisdom.
Knowing when to act is just as important as knowing what to do. And wisdom demonstrates you don’t need a title before you show excellence. You don’t need a platform before you perform. Bring your best to whatever you’re doing now, even if nobody’s watching because God is.
Look at Joseph. He didn’t wait until he got to Pharaoh’s palace to shine. He was excellent in Potiphar’s house. Then in prison. Then before Pharaoh. His rise wasn’t luck. It was a track record of wisdom and faithfulness.
3. Living on Two Wings:
Let us bring it home. Life was never meant to be lived hopping on one leg. You were designed to walk with two feet, to fly with two wings: power and wisdom.
So ask yourself: Am I cultivating both? Am I growing in the power of God? Am I walking in the wisdom of God?
You need both. That’s how you soar.
What Happens When You Soar in Excellence?
1. Preservation: Excellence preserves you. When Daniel’s enemies plotted against him, they found no fault. Excellence shielded him. In your workplace, in school, in ministry — excellence will speak for you when others try to silence you.
2. Promotion: Excellence doesn’t beg for favor. It attracts it. Joseph didn’t bribe his way into power. His consistency elevated him. Excellence is your promotion strategy.
3. Influence and Glory to God: When you live with excellence, God is glorified. People will look at your life and say, “Only God could have done this.”
Excellence is not about impressing people. It’s about expressing the greatness of God in and through you.
2 Corinthians 4:7 reminds us: “We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
You carry treasure inside of you. Let it shine.
Say this prayer:
My father and my God, help me to rise above mediocrity and soar in excellence in Jesus name.
