The kingdom of God, which is a combination of the kingdom of heaven, the earth, and the earth beneath, is controlled by the governing influence of the King of Kings – The Almighty God!
The kingdom of heaven has the full expression and manifestation of the will of the King (God).
There is only one way that God uses to achieve His purpose.
It is through obedience. All other principles of the kingdom subscribe to the principle of obedience to flourish.
Obedience is a sign of your conviction about the authority of the King, conversion to the culture of the King, and commitment to the nature of the kingdom.
Let’s look at the importance of obedience as a kingdom citizen.
1. Obedience is an expression of love for the King:
In John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep my commandments”
You obey God to demonstrate your love for Him as your King. It is the hallmark of our salvation. The authentication that you are genuinely saved.
It is your obedience that sets you apart as an authentic child of God. It is your way of showing God that you love Him; and it is through your obedience that God recognizes you and enables you to enjoy His Love. Therefore, your primary motive for obedience must be “to show God that you love Him”. Obedience is your love language to God.
2. Obedience is an expression of faith in the King:
Trust makes you to follow the King’s leading even when you are not sure of the outcome.
Hebrews 11:8 says,
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Each time anyone disobeys God, they “go down” not “up”. When you obey God, especially when you are not sure of the outcome, it is you completely trusting God. Obedience can be tough; many times, it means taking the more difficult road when there is an option for the easy way – the “short cut”. Your choice to obey therefore demonstrates your trust in God. It shows that even though it’s hard, even though it doesn’t make sense you will still do it. Obedience is an expression of your faith in God.
3. Obedience demonstrates your readiness to fight in the Kingdom:
The Bible stated that since the day of the John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffers violence.
Every kingdom citizen is enlisted to fight. That is why the scripture calls you a good soldier of Jesus Christ, according to 2Timothy 2:3-4.
The fight will continue until the return of the King of kings to the earth (Rev 19 & 20), and the devil will continue to deceive the people.
Because of this, there will be a constant and continuous fight between the two kingdoms – the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of the devil. Whether you like it or not, you need to constantly fight the good fight of faith.
In addition to the Whole Armour (Eph 6: 10-19) required to be able to withstand the devil, You also need obedience to stand.
Obedience to the King of Kings assures you of victory. You cannot punish the disobedience of demons when your obedience to God is not complete (2 Cor. 10:6).
4. In addition to Faith, Obedience is a system of receiving the Kingdom blessings:
Hope helps you to expect the kingdom resources, Faiths helps you to accept them, but Obedience prepares you for the kingdom resources.
For example, when you start obeying the word, more revelation of the word will be coming to you. This is because God does not waste His word. It is in the place of revelation that enlargement emanates from.
In Gen. 26:1; 15-22, Isaac had a track record of obeying God’s word. He cooperated with Abraham for the sacrifice to God and it became easy for God to tell him mysteries in Gerer.
Daniel had a track record of obeying the Word (Dan 1:8). Daniel determined not to defile himself, and God gave him the revelation of the king’s dream that became the catalyst for his enlargement.
Obedience is nonnegotiable to walk uprightly with God. Deut. 28 further reveals the blessings that come with obedience.
Verse 2 of the Deut. 28 says – And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.
Say this prayer: My father and my God, help me to obey and trust in you absolutely, in the name of Jesus.
