The significance of resurrection is about Christ conquering death. A total defeat of death, once and for all. In history, up till date, no religious leader ever predicted his own death and resurrection.
Jesus Himself proclaimed in Rev 1:18 – I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. The key here is the authority Christ has over death. Hence, our Lord Jesus is not a dead martyr to be pitied, but a living, reigning son of the most high God.
We’ll be taking our Bible text from: Luke 24:1-9
What Exactly is the Power of Resurrection?
1. The Power of Resurrection reminds us of God’s absolute sovereignty over life and death:
The sovereignty of God means the supreme power vested in God. The resurrection witnesses the immense power of God Himself.
To believe in the power of resurrection is to believe in God. God created the universe and has power over it, so He has power to raise the dead. Only He who created life can resurrect it after death. As children of God, we can be sure that eternal life is certain, because our God has the absolute power of life and death.
2. It validates that Jesus is the true Messiah (The Savior):
The resurrection was the “sign from heaven” that authenticated His ministry. In Matthew 16:1-4, 1- Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He show them a sign from heaven. Jesus told them, no sign will be shown to them except the sign of Jonah, and He left them.
Speaking of the sign of Jonah, Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days.
Jesus was more direct in Mark 8:31- And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ was an undeniable proof that He’s the savior of the world.
3. It authenticates one of the many names of Jesus – “Resurrection and Life”:
In John 11:25, Jesus speaking to Martha said, 25- I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
There is no resurrection apart from Christ, no eternal life. Jesus does more than giving life; He is life, and that’s why death has no power over Him.
According to John 1:4- In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
As long as we believe in Jesus Christ, we will personally experience resurrection, because, having the life Jesus gives, we have overcome the grip of sin and death. It is impossible for death to win.
In 1 Corinthians 15:56–57, 56- The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57- But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Power of Resurrection is readily available. How do we tap into it?
One important thing to know is that the Power of Resurrection isn’t in the past. It isn’t just in the future, but it is also in the present. Everyone experiences the power of resurrection when they surrendered their life to Jesus (Eph. 1:18-20). The Bible says in Eph 1:19 – And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.
In dealing with life’s daily challenges, the power of resurrection can resuscitate any dying situation and turn things around. Whether it’s in a failing marriage, failing business, failing health, abandoned project, the Power of Resurrection can bring them all back to life. Rom 8:11 says “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you”.
Say the Prayer: Power of Resurrection, find expression in every area of my life, in the name of Jesus.
